Musings

It's 2010!

Hi, How crazy is that? Don't you remember the big hoopla over 2000?
January is the the month where we look back from where we were and then forward to where we plan to go!  And we are far more excited today because for the first time in two weeks, the temperatures rose above freezing!   In fact today has been balmy and given us hope that there will be a spring before long.  With record cold snaps here in NC, we found ourselves remembering why we had automatic heaters in the watering troughs up north!  It was never a very cost effective tool in NC, so of course every morning, we have been breaking ice and after a long period of temperatures never rising above freezing, well we could have ice skated on the surfaces!
We should probably tell you that if you call us on our cell phones and we happen to be outside of our studio, that screeching, strangling sound you  hear (and you will hear it) is coming from the  Pygmy goat, Oreo.  She is perfectly fine, and, if you recall,  is the mama goat. She watches the front door of the house for any signs of activity and if she detects movement, the gutteral screeching starts.
We feel we need to apologize if you did not receive our annual Christmas card!  Things became really hectic at Christmas and we did not send out a single card. Not to you, not to our families! Talk about feeling guilty! Part of the reason was...well,  because we out-thought ourselves. We had this great idea-beautiful, but we had to paint it, we had to print it and it was all going to be done "later." So look for it in December, 2010! That's later right?

Pony Oil Painting

What’s New

Remember that Valentine's Day is right around the corner!  Steve has a selection of his smaller paintings that you can choose from or just ask him to create one! And of course, it's a good time to have a portrait created!
We are holding painting workshops for the winter quarter so check our schedules to see what will work for you!
We've also partnered with Burning Oaks Studios, along with Jerrys Artarama, to create some "How To" DVD's the first week of February.  Theresa will be "Painting the Family Dog!"  Steve will be painting "Creating Miniature Paintings in Oil." Well that's the plan anyway. He was called to jury duty that very week. Now, figure this out- no jury duty for over a decade and the judicial system chooses THAT week?
We are also holding several artist  workshops at the Raleigh Jerry's Art Store in January as well so check their schedule!
Just a regular reminder for the local folks that the second Friday of each month is Downtown Wake Forest's Art After Hours. Come see our studio and enjoy the art, music and refreshments from 6-9 pm!

Quote of the Month:

Learn all you can from the mistakes of others.  You won't have time to make them all yourself.
